父・華弘氏とは異なる境地へ。
友禅の概念を越える斬新なデザイン。

2007年、父である森口華弘氏と同じ「友禅」の分野で重要無形文化財保持者（人間国宝）に認定された森口邦彦氏。友禅訪問着のデザインが、2014年にリニューアルされた三越のショッピングバッグに採用されたことでも知られています。父・森口華弘氏は花鳥風月の古典美をモチーフにした作風であるのに対し、森口邦彦氏は幾何学模様を配したグラフィカルな表現を極められました。1941年京都市に生まれ、1963年に京都市立美術大学（現・京都市立芸術大学）日本画科を卒業後、パリ国立高等装飾美術学校に留学しグラフィックデザインを学ばれます。帰国後、父・森口華弘氏の下で糸目糊や堰出し技法をはじめ、森口華弘氏の特徴的技法「蒔糊」の友禅技法を学び、1967年日本伝統工芸展に初入選。以降、各展の受賞を重ねられ、2001年には紫綬褒章、2007年には重要無形文化財「友禅」保持者（人間国宝）に認定。さらに、2013年に旭日中綬章受賞、2020年には文化功労者に選定されました。新しい表現を追求しながら、後進の指導と育成に尽力されています。

Yuzen

Taking a different direction from his father, Moriguchi Kako,
Kunihiko’s work feels completely unique in the world of Yuzen.

In 2007, Moriguchi Kunihiko was recognized as a Living National Treasure in the field of Yuzen, just as his father, Moriguchi Kako, had been years prior.

Moriguchi is famous for his Yuzen Houmogi, formal kimonos for women. One of whichs design was adopted for the department store Mitsukoshi’s shopping bag, as of 2014. Kunihiko graduated from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1966 and returned to Japan to study Yuzen under his father. He also learned the technique of Maki Nori, a technique he still uses himself until this day. While his father’s work was often based on the beauty of nature, including scenes of flowers, birds, rolling hill, Kunihiko’s work is a graphical expression of geometric patterns and shapes, influenced by the pop art movement in Paris at the time he studied there. Since then, he has received awards at various exhibitions, and in 2001 he was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon, and in 2007 he was recognized as the holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property "Yuzen" (Living National Treasure). In 2013, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, and in 2020, he was selected as a Person of Cultural Merit.

While pursuing new expressions, he is committed to teaching and nurturing makers from younger generations.
