Oshima-Tsumugi - Woven in store at Ginza Motoji

This September, we have resumed the live weaving demonstrations of Oshima Tsumugi in our store at Ginza Motoji. Our weaving staff has returned from maternity leave, and the mud-dyed Oshima Tsumugi on the loom is being woven once again.

The loom in our store Waori Wasen was brought from Amami Oshima. Oshima Tsumugi, is famous for its intricate kasuri*, which is woven by hand thread by thread. This meticulous weaving process can be witnessed in store only at Ginza Motoji.

*Kasuri, sometimes referred to as Ikat, is a technique where thread are bound and dyed before weaving to create spotted threads.
