Earth, is what nurtures future life.
It is composed of what once existed, and it is the homeland of life that will one day return to it. Not only can humanity not escape this great cycle, but while we are on this earth, our daily lives are supported by the ground beneath us, and our lives are sustained by the blessings it provides.
Thus, the question of “which land do we live with?” can also be seen as “how are we sustained?” No matter how much progress time may bring, and even if humanity forgets the earth and what it provides, people are still bound to the land of their origins.
Upon this premise, we have created an obi, (a traditional belt like Japanese garment) dyed and woven with motifs that embody the people and nature that nourished the town we know.
This serves as both a medium to tangibly teach the presence of the earth to the body and as a symbol that reminds us of our connection to the land we live on, the living (those whose lives are linked by the deceased).
