Men's Original Collection 2023 F/W “1923”

On September 1st 1923, exactly 100 years ago, the Great Kanto Earthquake shook Japan leaving unprecedented damage in the Greater Tokyo area. The prosperous district of Ginza was reduced nearly entirely to rubble. The people of Ginza swiftly rose to the occasion, rebuilding makeshift "Barracks" to replace the buildings and storefront in the disaster. Many of these business reopened within just two months of the quake. The speed of the rebuilding and resilience of the people of Ginza was documented in the novel "Ginza Fukkō" or "Ginza Revival" by the novelist Minakami Takitaro .

Despite the devastating state of the city, there was one building that remained almost untouched: the Imperial Hotel  designed by the modern architecture master Frank Lloyd Wright. The earthquake struck on the very day of the completion ceremony, and the hotel later became known worldwide for withstanding the earthquake.
