(English text below.)

INUKAI, Chikako
Yuzen

The simplicity and freshness of seasonal flora,

uniting the wearer with the world around them.

Chikako Inukai, originally from Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, is a renowned artist in the world of yuzen dyeing. After graduating from university, she delved into mastering the techniques of this traditional craft before venturing out to establish her own business at the young age of 25.

Throughout her career, Inukai has collaborated with esteemed designers, including Hiroko Koshino, and explored diverse artistic endeavors beyond the kimono industry. These experiences have greatly influenced her work, imbuing it with a sense of tradition that remains contemporary and captivating. Her compositions and color palettes exude an urban and fresh aesthetic, lending an expressive touch to each piece.

Notably, Inukai's personal affinity for kimono is reflected in her designs, making them highly wearable and immensely popular among kimono enthusiasts. Her creations often showcase whimsical depictions of fruits and flowers, reminiscent of picturesque scroll paintings that beautifully capture the essence of each season. The overall impression conveyed by her work is one of dignity, softness, and femininity.

Seasonality plays a vital role in the world of kimono, where fabrics and weaves are carefully chosen to align with each season. In this tradition, botanical motifs are not worn throughout the year but rather embraced when the flowers bloom or the fruits ripen. Chikako Inukai's creations understand and honor this essence of time, captivating the hearts of kimono enthusiasts who eagerly anticipate the perfect moment to unveil their cherished Inukai pieces.
