President of Ginza Motoji, Komei Motoji, is from Amami island which is located south of Japan, Kagoshima Prefecture which is famous for Kimono material, called Oshima tsumugi (pongee). Komei was a marathon runner as a university student, but quit due to injury and was confused about what to do with his future. By coincidence, he happened to wear his father's Oshima tsumugi and it made him very comfortable, so he decided to get involved in the kimono business.

Therefore, without Oshima Tsumugi, Ginza Motoji would not have existed. Oshima Tsumugi is in the origin of the company. Komei is very appreciative towards it and as if to show it, every December, Ginza Motoji holds ‘Oshima Tsumugi Competitions’. Works are voted, and the three best works are selected. The winning designers of the products are awarded by Komei and motivates them by delivering the ‘voice’ from consumers. Ginza Motoji knows very well of the importance of getting messages from the consumers to designers and believes this bridging is his eternal mission.
